Corporate Shill

Flying domestic always feels me with fear and loathing. But yesterday...yesterday was a lovely thing. So excuse me while I wax evangelical about Air Tran.
Air Tran, under a different name, became infamous for being the airline that blew itself, and a plane full of people, up over the Everglades through a combination of corporate negligence and stupidity. It changed its name and underwent a makeover and yesterday I was surrounded by seemingly happy people in fast planes and complimentary XM radio playing in my ears as I watched the sun set over the land. I arrived in the land of snow and ice completely exhausted but with luggage and spirit intact.

Travelling is really just about finding a moment with kindred spirits. Mine came back in Phoenix when a lovely guy and I talked about finding the zen in air travel - he bought me a coffee and then laughed as the worlds skinniest Santa gave me a candy cane but declined to give him one: "Only the girls get the sugar" said our Santa on the make as he nearly sprinted to hand out some more sweetness to the blonde beauty that had just appeared across the way.
Ho ho ho indeed.

Humps, Bumps and Grinds

I've moved to a place were bumps are called humps and the public library has The Idiots Guide to Pole and Exotic Dancing. The alternate reality is somewhat expected - after all, these people have to celebrate Christmas in 70 degree weather. But there are payoffs - specifically a dog named Riley who manfully (doggedly?) took on a Tucson mountain.

While Rileys' humans seemed uninterested I think he would be the cats meow in a saddle - something in red leather and studs but secretly - between you and me - I think he's just thankful that it is 70 degrees so he's not modeling a knitted snowsuit.

Moving in

Now that the drive has ended i'm left with the task of actually living here. Coming from a smallish town with nary a double lane highway in sight I find myself a block away from a four laner. It's amazingly quiet or maybe the cars are so constant that there's just an undertone of white noise that i don't notice. Following my mother's dictum that the way to settle in is to discover the supermarket and the library i did both: the Safeway and Starbucks are within walking distance and the library just down the road. And yesterday I drove out to a state park for a morning hike that was beautiful.

After arriving in the rain I had wondered what brought all these people here - i've discovered it - cloudless blue sky and 70 degree days. I won't mention it again. I promise.
Really.
